Flex Banner Printing: How to Choose the Right Material and Size
Star flex, backlit, vinyl or mesh — matching banner material and size to where the banner will actually live.
Flex banners are the fastest way to put a message on a wall, a stage or a shopfront, but material choice determines how long the banner looks good and how it prints.
Standard star flex is the general-purpose workhorse: affordable, printable in vivid colour and durable for weeks-to-months outdoors when finished with eyelets. Backlit flex is translucent and designed to sit in front of a light source — menu boards, airport-style light boxes and evening event backdrops.
Vinyl gives a smoother surface and sharper fine detail for close-view prints, while mesh flex lets wind pass through — the right choice for high-rise hoardings where wind load matters.
Size should follow viewing distance. Counter banners read from a metre away; stage backdrops must work from ten metres. At larger distances, increase type size dramatically and cut the number of words. Always confirm whether the banner hangs flat, wraps a corner or needs pole pockets — finishing is decided before printing, not after.
